How to Add Wax to a Bong/Pipe

Oftentimes, people prefer to enjoy their wax through a dab rig, which is certainly one of the best ways to do it. However, it’s not the only way to do it, and sometimes, you simply don’t have the various pieces of equipment required to get those gigantic dab bong hits. Fortunately, the other methods of consuming wax are a bit simpler.

If you’ve got a bong or a pipe and some high-quality flower, you can enhance your experience quite easily with a bit of concentrate. However, you don’t want to just toss it on top and have at it if you want to optimize that experience. To ensure you get it right, take a look at this simple guide on how to add wax to a bong/pipe.

What Is Wax?

Wax is a form of cannabis concentrate created by extracting the most desirable compounds from flower and collecting them into a super potent product with a wonderful consistency.

These products are for what you might call strong swimmers only, as they are extra powerful, with most of them containing around double the THC content of the strongest flower and sometimes significantly more than that.

The Potency of Wax

You read that correctly; wax can have double or more the THC content of the strongest flower. It is extremely strong stuff, which is a dream for many cannabinoid enthusiasts, but it’s also something to be cautious about, even if you’ve got some decent experience with THC.

The top-flight flower strains will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-35% THC content, while the average concentrate will have around 75% THC, with the best pushing toward 99% purity.

That’s a level of psychoactive prowess that’s hard to comprehend until that first hit has passed the blood-brain barrier. Tread lightly at first to ensure a good time.

The Different Ways to Enjoy Wax

Although some different requirements are involved, you can enjoy your cannabis concentrates in pretty much all the same ways you enjoy your flower, including:

  • In a bowl

  • In a vape pen

  • With a dab rig

  • Added to a joint

  • Cooked into edibles

  • In a bong

The caveat here is that you really want to avoid direct contact with a flame when smoking your wax, as it can burn away some of the THC and the amazing terpenes that provide concentrates with their unmatched flavor profile. That’s not a big deal, though, provided you take a few extra precautions when toking.

Smoking Wax in a Bong or Pipe

If you’ve recently broken your dab rig or simply don’t currently own one, you’re probably wondering what to do with your surplus of cannabis wax. But don’t just slap it into a bowl piece and torch it, or you’ll be wasting some of that precious material. Grab a bong or pipe and follow these steps.

Grind Up Some Flower

You don’t want to smoke the wax all by itself because that would require exposing it to direct flame, so grind up some flower first and provide your concentrate with a pillowy partner.

Pack the Bottom of the Bowl

Create a layer of flower on the base of the bowl piece as a cushion, leaving plenty of extra room for what comes next.

Add the Wax

Now, you’ll grab a dab tool, scoop up a bit of wax, and add it on top of the half-bowl pack you’ve got waiting.

Pack the Rest of the Bowl

Once your wax is placed snugly on its flower bed, tuck it in with another blanket of ground-up weed.

Light It Up

Burn the top layer of flower lightly, and then give it a gentle pull to start a decent little blaze that will heat the wax without burning it all up and wasting its potent cannabinoid constituents. Inhale, exhale, repeat. You’ve now successfully employed the wax bong technique.

Vaporizing with a Bong

If you’ve got a dab nail that fits into your bong, you can take some wax dabs with it, provided it’s not one of those extra-long bongs that require a stepstool to operate.

You simply use it in the same way you’d use your dab rig, but maybe with the help of a trusted friend, as the shape of a bong can make it a little trickier to heat the nail and get a good hit.

Enjoy Your Wax Responsibly

Hopefully, this guide helped you get a little insight into getting creative with your concentrate consumption when a dab rig is unavailable. Just remember to avoid direct contact with flame and remain cautious with the size and quantity of your hits, and you should be good to go.
